Aid and Attendance Benefits

Aid and Attendance benefits can ease the cost of home health care. Let AVCC help you take the first confident step.

Don’t Miss Out on Aid and Attendance Benefits

Aid and Attendance is a benefit paid by the VA to Veterans or surviving spouses in addition to a Veteran’s basic pension. Without being initially eligible for a basic VA pension, you’re unable to receive Aid and Attendance benefits. Medical expenses counted in qualifying for assistance include:

  • In-home care services
  • Assisted living facilities
  • Nursing home accommodations

It’s also important to note that Aid and Attendance benefits aren’t contingent on the disability resulting from your service (also referred to as a non-service-connected disability benefit).

How to Qualify

If you require assistance with daily living activities, you might be eligible to receive Aid and Attendance benefits. If you need help with at least two of your Activities of Daily Living (ADL), you could be eligible. These ADLs include:

  • Eating
  • Bathing and hygiene
  • Getting dressed
  • Grooming
  • Toileting and incontinence
  • Mobility

Note that these six activities don’t include things like housekeeping, cooking, and other household chores that you may still struggle to complete. If you find that you’re unable to perform at least two of these ADL activities. This gives you a clearer path to accessing the Aid and Attendance benefits that support your long-term well-being.
