After your dedication and honorable service, you deserve the utmost care. But sifting through the information and qualification requirements can become overwhelming. Here, American Veteran Care Connection answers some questions you may have.
Do You Know What VA Benefits You Qualify For?
Every year, many U.S. Veterans go without the benefits they deserve, for various reasons. Many face application issues and throw in the towel when they don’t receive the attention and guidance they need. Others miss out on benefits by skipping required exams. However, most Veterans are simply unaware of their benefits, and as a result, they don’t inquire about them or file any claims to begin with.
Learning your eligibility status is the first step to receiving assistance. But getting the information you need is difficult when you don’t have the proper resources. AVCC’s dedicated specialists work on your behalf to make sure you claim all of your benefits and receive them in a timely manner. Here are some answers to get you on the right track:
What Is the VA Aid and Attendance Pension?
The VA Aid and Attendance Pension provides qualifying wartime Veterans or surviving spouses with a monthly payment. There are three types of pensions with various payment amounts and eligibility requirements. The Aid and Attendance Pension is an enhanced benefit to help pay for long-term care, assisted living facilities, and nursing home accommodations.
How Do I Know If I Qualify for Aid and Attendance Benefits?
Applicants must confirm whether they need help with activities of daily living. Those who are unable to complete at least two of the following tasks on their own qualify for the Aid and Attendance benefit:
- Eating
- Bathing and personal hygiene
- Dressing
- Grooming
- Toileting
- Mobility
How Long Will It Take To Start Receiving Services?
The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs says wait times vary. They file claims in the order they were received, so it may take some time to get a response. It could take anywhere from 3 to 6 months for Veterans to get the assistance they qualify for. However, if you’re 90 years or older, your claim may be expedited.
What Are the Service Requirements for VA Aid and Attendance Benefits?
Here are the eligibility requirements to receive VA Aid and Attendance benefits:
- Served at least 90 days of active duty, with at least one day being during a war
- Served at least 24 months or the entire time in active duty you were called to serve, with at least one day during a wartime period
- Is at least 65 years old
- Partially or permanently disabled OR
- A patient in a nursing home receiving skilled nursing care OR
- Receiving social security disability insurance
- Receiving supplemental security income
How Do I Complete the VA Aid and Attendance Application?
Filling out a quick online questionnaire is the most convenient way to submit the VA Aid and Attendance Application. Using alternative methods complicates the process because you’d have to go through your local pension management center or find your regional benefit office using the VA facility locator.
