Whether you’re a Veteran who’s unsure how to fill out the VA Aid and Attendance form or you’re a surviving spouse who’s unaware of what it takes to qualify, don’t worry. We’re here to answer all your questions and eliminate your concerns. Our main priority is making sure you receive expert care and the highest monthly payments possible.

How Can Veteran Aid and Attendance Help You Pay for Home Care Services?

The Veteran A&A benefit is a monetary payment added to your monthly VA pension. This money is paid directly to eligible recipients who may use it to pay for their assistance, including medical and non-medical expenses. You can use this money to pay for Veterans home care services if you’re a qualifying Veteran or surviving spouse.

Veteran Aid and Attendance Application Requirement

Each case is unique. However, there is a list of general requirements to qualify for A&A benefits. The application form must be filled in correctly with no errors or blank spaces. Otherwise, your case could be denied with no explanation, which is frustrating. Many are unsure how to appeal a VA denial, leaving them feeling stuck and helpless. For these reasons, AVCC urges you to contact us from the start to ensure an easier process.
Before you apply, note that Veteran Aid and Attendance is for Veterans who served on active duty for at least 90 days and one full day during a wartime period. However, they must also be eligible for the basic Veterans Pension and meet the clinical and financial requirements.

Clinical Requirements

If Veterans and surviving spouses meet at least one of the following criteria, they may be eligible for the A&A benefit:

  • On long-term bed rest, unless they’re going to a medical or therapy appointment
  • Visually impaired with eyesight limited to 5/200 or less in both eyes, or concentric contraction of the visual field to five degrees or less
  • Live at a nursing home facility due to physical or mental disability, including Alzheimer’s and dementia
  • Need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, cooking, eating, and using the restroom

Financial Requirements

Veterans and surviving spouses are eligible for the A&A benefit if their countable income is less than the Maximum Annual Pension Rate. Countable income includes earnings, retirement and pension payments, and social security checks. In 2018, the Veteran and surviving spouse income limitations were set to $123,600. In 2022, it was increased to $138,489. This amount includes savings and checking accounts, mutual funds, stocks, and vacation homes.
